The focus of the latest release from folk-rock group Caedmon's Call is clear. After all, their new CD, In the Company of Angels, is subtitled "A Call to Worship," and those words couldn't be more descriptive.
While they may be better known for their tight instrumentation and mellow pop/rock sound, Caedmon's Call got their start as worship leaders back in Texas at the Second Baptist Church of Houston.
The thriving congregation there is the nation's second largest Baptist church and the place where lead singer Cliff Young's father and brother are both pastors.
The group's worship style may have been shaped by that Texas church, but the modern worship sound on this new release runs the musical gamut---from traditional hymns to live recordings to a previously unrecorded chorus titled "Oh Lord ,Your Love" penned by the late Rich Mullins. Each of Caedmon's Call's members contributed to the songwriting process, making this a true collaboration and a fitting follow-up to last year's Long Line of Leavers.
