New Word Records power pop-punk band Stellar Kart began in a Phoenix-based youth group three years ago as a worship band. Since then, they've recorded two independent releases, peformed about 100 dates a year, covering a lot of ground in Arizona and southern California, and played with bands like Jeremy Camp, By The Tree and Seven Places.
"This is definitely music for a younger audience, you know, like high school. They're more responsive to our style of music and the message that we have because we just went through that period in our life," says lead singer Adam Agee. "It's presented in a way that's cool and fun. It's music for anybody but it's definitely geared toward youth kids because that's where we started."
The band's affinity for the youth setting is easily heard in "Gone Fishin" and "Student Driver." Songs written on location, they're full of catchy music with simple messages that are easily understood.
In addition to its other touring, Stellar Kart has worked with Silver Ring Thing, an abstinence program. Silver Ring Thing puts on high-tech presentations full of video, music, comdey skits, light shows, the whole works to encourage kids in abstinence. The song 'Second Chances' came from working with this organization.
