The third edition of CHRISTIANITY THROUGH THE CENTURIES brings readers up to date by discussing events and developments in the church into the twenty-first century. In addition, many sections have been expended or otherwise revised. Most significantly, the account of the era since World War I treats new developments, such as the decline of liberal, neo-orthodox, and radical theologies; the rise of evangelicalism in the Third World; the challenge of parachurch and megachurch to denominationalism; the Pentecostal=Charismatic-Third Wave emphasis on the Holy Spirit; and a more open Roman Catholicism. The author not only explains the development of doctrines, movemetns, and institutions, but also gives attention to "the impact of Christianity on its times and to the mark of the times on Christianity."
