DESCRIPTION

The authors provide background on the rise of liberation theology, the legacy of colonialism, and various perceptions of the liberating goal. They then develop themes of idolatry, poverty, and suffering and the need for true liberation from them. They discuss what was wrong with Marxist liberation, and, in an especially perceptive chapter, how those in power remain in power. These themes lead into an analysis of Mosaic law's attempts at insuring justice and how to alter it to fit the 20th centu ry. The book is prophetic and vaguely hopeful on the practical level, while it provides important theological proposals to support post-Marxist liberation theology. Recommended for academic libraries.
