SYNOPSIS
(David White), a con man and Jeremiah
(David White), a preacher, who are forced to switch lives. Out of a simple
switch emerges repressed feelings of guilt and hate that leaves their lives and
the people they love changed forever.
Recently released from prison, John is looking to put the past behind him and
make a new start with a legitimate business venture. Plagued by his past and
uncertain about his future, he attempts to raise the necessary capital by
agreeing to pull one last job alongside his father figure and mentor Rome (Eric
Roberts). John's deliberated attempt to double cross Rome sets off a chain of
events which turns the lives of both brothers into turmoil. While on the run
from Rome, John cunningly steps into the calm suburban life of his twin brother
Jeremiah and turns his seemingly perfect life upside down.
Jeremiah, a well-loved and respected priest, is forced into the criminal
underworld of his brother when he is taken hostage by Rome and blackmailed into
taking part in a counterfeiting scam. Haunted by the guilt of what he believes
to be his brother's death, Jeremiah desperately struggles to atone for his
transgression and redeem his faith by going along with the plan. However, Rome's
simple plan begins to go horribly wrong when Jeremiah escapes and comes face to
face with the brother he presumed was dead.
Unable to escape the predicament that has become their proverbial cross the brothers turn to each other, only to harshly discover that they cannot turn away from the consequences of their actions or the love and forgiveness of God.
MOVIE REVIEW (Christian Spotlight on the Movies)
It is an exciting time for the theatrical Christian film industry. Like never before, millions of people are able to be impacted with strong messages of faith and hope that Hollywood fare films just don't deliver. 1999 brought such films Revelation and The Omega Code to the big screen. And now, seeking to provide clean entertainment with a Christian worldview, Signal Hill gives us Mercy Streets in a realistic modern day story about two brothers with an opposite outlook on life.
It's hip, it's action, it's drama, and it's faith all rolled into one captivating story of forgiveness. And where does forgiveness come from ultimately? Through the person of Jesus Christ. In one climactic scene, Father Tom (Stacy Keach) guides the doubting Jeremiah to realize that just knowing about Jesus isn't enough. You have to accept him and let go of those things in which you need forgiveness. Preach it, brother! But don't think the entire film is preachy; most of it isn't at all.
Without a doubt, Mercy Streets stands on its own merit. It has a strong story with, most importantly, a crucial message that Christ needs to be the Lord of our lives. This film is recommended for teens and adults, and is an excellent opportunity for Christians to lead unsaved friends toward the truth. Don't miss it!
