DESCRIPTION

Synopsis from the publisher:

The Christian church world-wide is growing significantly in size and influence. However, John Stott has commented that the greatest problem it faces is ‘growth without maturity’. Expansion can be accompanied by lack of depth. Teaching and discipleship are still needed, perhaps as never before.

Josh Moody’s conviction is that the American minister and theologian Jonathan Edwards (1703–58) provides us with a model for Christian faithfulness in today’s world. Edwards is still regarded by many as America’s most profound theological and philosophical thinker.

With freshness and accessibility, Josh Moody introduces us to Edwards’ life, ministry and writings, engages with him on a range of important subjects, and demonstrates his continuing relevance through helpful and challenging applications for contemporary Christians and churches.

'With a sure grasp of the details of Edwards’ life and the deep structures of his thought, as well as a keen understanding of today’s church scene, Josh Moody is well placed to show where, and where not, Edwards should be heeded. Powerfully challenging and highly recommended.'
Michael Haykin, Toronto Baptist Seminary

‘I feel that the insights here are ones the church today needs to apply. Church leaders: read this book! It’s accessible in style and deep in content. Don’t miss it!’
Stephen Gaukroger, Gold Hill Baptist Church, Buckinghamshire

'We are greatly indebted to Josh Moody for producing a quality historical account that is so accessible and engaging, but then using it to speak with such help to our day and especially to the priorities of our Christian lives, in the church and in the world. It moves us to thank God for Jonathan Edwards, who still speaks so powerfully, but above all to worship and adore his God and ours.'
