In the Christmas TV show Frosty the Snowman, some children put a top hat on their snowman one winter day, and the snowman comes to life! Frosty the Snowman shows the children the most wonderful time they have ever known. They can play outdoors with Frosty all day long and never get cold. Their sleds slide farther than ever before. But then the days get a little warmer, and one day a gust of wind blows the top hat off their snowman.

“Frosty the Snowman had to hurry on his way, but he waved goodbye saying, ‘Don’t you cry; I’ll be back again some day.’ Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump.

Look at Frosty go!”

The Bible story of Jesus going up to heaven is a lot like that. When Jesus goes away, his friends are feeling a lot like the children who had to say goodbye to Frosty the Snowman. With Jesus, his friends have had the greatest time of their lives. Life has been full of miracles. Sick people have been healed. Blind people regain sight. Great storms are calmed.

But now, Jesus is about to leave them. Jesus waves goodbye and said, (sort of)

“Don’t you cry; I’ll be back again some day.”

We find that story in Acts chapter 1,

verses 9–12:

[Jesus] was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men [angels] dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee ,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen

him go into heaven.”

Jesus is not gone forever. He will come back for you, if you...

#1: Know God’s Wish

The Bible tells us that God loves us and has a wonderful plan for us.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

#2: Admit Your Sin

Because of our sin, we cannot know and experience God’s love and plan for our life.

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

#3: Accept God’s Gift

Jesus Christ’s special birth, perfect life, death and resurrection allow us to accept God’s love and plan for our life.  When we accept Him as our Savior, we are forgiven of our sins and we become God’s children. Then God’s Spirit lives inside us until Jesus comes back Himself.

“To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…”  John 1:12

When you accept Jesus, you can tell Him by simply talking to God in prayer.  Here’s an example:

Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and my sins kept me apart from God.  I believe You died to pay the penalty for my sins, and now I accept Your gift of forgiveness. I also believe You rose again and went up into heaven, and that You will come back for me one day to live with me forever. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
